Alyn Ware
Global Coordinator, PNND

Alyn Ware is the International Coodinator of the Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament ( PNND ), a program of the Global Security Institute. Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Lawyers' Committee on Nuclear Policy and the UN Coordinator for the World Court Project, which led the effort to achieve a ruling from the International Court of Justice on the legality of the threat or use of nuclear weapons. In addition to his numerous leadership positions within the peace and security field, he is co-author with Merav Datan of "Security and Survival: The Case for a Nuclear Weapons Convention", and with Annie Doherty of "Our Planet in Every Classroom", and has written numerous articles.

Senator Douglas Roche, O.C.
Chair, Middle Powers Initiative
Former Canadian Disarmament Ambassador

Author, parliamentarian and diplomat, Douglas Roche was appointed to the Senate of Canada on September 17th, 1998. Previously, he was elected to the Canadian Parliament four times, serving from 1972 to 1984 and specializing in development and disarmament.

Senator Roche was Canada's Ambassador for Disarmament from 1984 to 1989. In 1988, he was elected Chairman of the United Nations Disarmament Committee. Senator Roche is the author of nineteen books, including “Global Conscience ” (Novalis, 2007). He is affiliated with numerous non-governmental organizations, including the Middle Powers Initiative and the Canadian Pugwash, both of which he is presently chairing. Senator Roche has received numerous awards and honors for his worldwide peace and disarmament work, among them the Papal Medal, the United Nations Association's Medal of Honor, and six Honorary Doctorates. He is a member of the Order of Canada and a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great at the Holy See.

Jonathan Granoff
President, Global Security Institute

Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute, is also Co-Chair of the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Senior Advisor to National Security Committee of the International Law Section of the American Bar Association. He serves on numerous governing and advisory boards including the Global Dialogue Institute, Middle Powers Initiative, Jane Goodall Institute, and the Bipartisan Security Group. Mr. Granoff is both a Member of the World Wisdom Council and a Fellow of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, and has represented the International Peace Bureau at the Nobel Peace Laureate Summits in Rome every year since 2002. He received his Baccalaureate degree, Cum Laude, from Vassar College and Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law.

Rhianna Tyson
Senior Officer, Global Security Institute

Rhianna Tyson is a Senior Officer for the Global Security Institute. Before coming to GSI, Rhianna was the Project Manager of the Reaching Critical Will project of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, United Nations Office, where she coordinated civil society efforts at disarmament fora of the United Nations.  Her writings have been published in Disarmament Forum, the quarterly publication of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), The IAEA Bulletin, the flagship publication of the International Atomic Energy Agency and others. In addition, Rhianna is a consultant with the Secure World Foundation.

Previously, Rhianna was an intern with the Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C., and with the Society for International Development in Rome.  Rhianna holds an MSc with distinction in Global Politics from the London School of Economics, and a BA in Gender and International Relations from Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts.

Mayra Gomez
Programme Officer, PNND

Mayra Gomez is a Programme Officer for Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND).  She has advocated the adoption and promotion of the Draft Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and denounced the effects of uranium mining on life and indigenous peoples. She has also informed members of the Noongar nation on collective intellectual property issues in Perth, Australia, and worked in Bolivia as the International Media Liaison for the Bolivian government. She was born in La Paz, Bolivia and presently resides in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

She holds a masters degree in Pacific International Affairs from the University of California and has also studied Human Rights and Latin American Studies at the University of Sorbonne, France.

 

Xanthe Hall (Germany)
German Coordinator PNND

Xanthe Hall has been involved in the anti-nuclear movement for many years. She has volunteered and worked for Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) in the UK. She has organised demonstrations and non-violent direct actions at bases hosting US nuclear weapons (Greenham Common, Molesworth, Alconbury). In 1992 she became the international campaigner for IPPNW and in 1995 she co-founded the Abolition 2000 Global Network for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. She is presently a member of the Abolition Global Council and Country Contact for the Middle Powers Initiative. She is also the nuclear weapons expert and programme coordinator of the German affiliate of IPPNW.

Silvana Pereira (Uruguay)

Silvana is a professional translator based in Montevideo, Uruguay.

 

Nermin Ali Abd el-Ghany el-Galy (Egypt)
Development and Outreach, Middle East, PNND

Nermin is a professional Arabic-English translator and a graduate in English Literature. She does voluntary work for Dreams and Teams: a youth leadership program, and for Global Exchange: an Egyptian/UK youth placement program in under-developed regions. Nermin is based in Alexandria, Egypt.
