Novemeber 29, 2011 (5:30 pm): The International Law Society of Widener University School of Law is hosting "A Discussion on Nuclear Disarmament with a Great American Ambassador: featuring U.S. Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr."

The event will be a dialogue-style discussion between Ambassador Graham, chairman of the Bi-Partisan Security Group and member of the Global Security Institute Board of Directors, and President of the Global Security Institute, Jonathan Granoff. A Q&A session will follow the discussion. The event begins at 5:30pm and a reception begins at 6:45pm.

The event is available for one (1) CLE credit in DE and PA, for the reasonable registration cost of $25. The United Religions Initiative is parterning up with the WE Campaign to host a conference "wake-up call" on September 20 on responding to the threat of nuclear weapons. Peace, security and disarmament leaders will discuss the spiritual, financial, political and scientific urgency in mobilizing a coordinated response from people of faith and moral conviction. June 15-17, 2006 — Gwangju, Korea — Jonathan Granoff and Alyn Ware, International Coordinator of the Parliamentary Network for Nuclear Disarmament (PNND), represented the International Peace Bureau (IPB) at the Nobel Peace Laureates Summit held in Gwangju, Republic of Korea under the theme, "May 18 Democratic Uprising and Peace on the Korean Peninsula." As a featured speaker, Mr. Granoff addressed the subject of "Ending War, Pursuing Peace."

June 12-13, 2006 — Ottawa, Canada — The Middle Powers Initiative successfully sent its fifth high-level delegation to the government of Canada since 1998. The delegation was led by Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, former Prime Minister of Canada and included MPI Chairman Hon. Douglas Roche, O.C., Bipartisan Security Group Chairman Ambassador Thomas Graham, and Global Security Institute President Jonathan Granoff. June 7, 2006 — Washington, DC— Dr. Hans Blix spoke in Washington, D.C. on the topic of WMD Dangers and Solutions. The event was held at the Choate Room of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and was organized by the Arms Control Association and sponsored by the American Bar Association Section of International Law & Practice’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on Non-Proliferation, which is co-Chaired by Mr. Granoff and Amb. Thomas Graham, Chair of the Bipartisan Security Group (BSG), a program of GSI. The same day, both Dr. Blix and Mr. Granoff engaged in private meetings with high-level US government officials including Senators John Warner and Lindsay Graham.

March 31, 2006 — New York, NY — New York University Law Symposium
GSI President Jonathan Granoff, MPI Chairman Douglas Roche, and BSG Director Ambassador Robert Grey were featured speakers at the NYU annual international law symposium. The topic of the symposium will be "Existing and Emerging Legal Approaches to Nuclear Weapons in the 21st Century."

March 2-3, 2006 — The Hague, The Netherlands — Article VI Forum: A Creative Initiative
The Middle Powers Initiative co-hosted the second meeting of the Article VI Forum with the Netherlands Institute of International Relations, 'Clingendael' on March 2-3, 2006 in The Hague. Featured keynote presenters included former Prime Minister of The Netherlands Ruud Lubbers former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Legal Affairs Ambassador Hans Corell, Dr. Tariq Rauf from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and experts from the recently formed International Panel on Fissile Materials (IPFM). December 13, 2005 — Washington, DC — Security Implications of Space Weaponization

November 23 - 26, 2005 — Rome, Italy — Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates
Jonathan Granoff attended the 6th Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Rome, Italy, where he represented the International Peace Bureau, a Nobel Laureate organization. November 15, 2006 — New York, NY — Biosecurity and Fulfillment of UNSCR 1540. Professor Barry Kellman, BSG member and Director of the International Consortium for Law And Strategic Security, convened a conference on Bio-security at the UN. The symposium was entitled Assisting States to Effectively Fulfill UNSCR 1540’s Legal Requirements. Jonathan Granoff was a guest speaker on the topic of "2006 Biological Weapons Convention and Resolution 1540: Widen the Dialogue."

November 7-9, 2005 — The Hague, Netherlands — Earth Charter Summit
Jonathan Granoff was a keynote panel participant in the 2005 Earth Charter Summit in the Netherlands. He spoke on the topics of "Human Rights, Human Responsibility, and International Law" and also "Multilateral Imperatives for Environmental and State Security."

November 3, 2005 — Philadelphia, PA — Model UN Conference at University of Pennsylvania
Jonathan Granoff was the opening ceremony speaker at the 2005 University of Pennsylvania Model UN Conference. Over 500 collegiate delegates were in attendance from around the U.S. Mr. Granoff spoke on the topic of global responsibility, the vital role the UN plays in international affairs, and the importance of the rule of law.

October 17, 2005 — United Nations—"Moving Forward on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation" GSI hosted a panel event at the United Nations on the topic of "Moving Forward on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation," featuring guest speakers Ambassador Elisabet Borsiin-Bonnier of Sweden, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the United Nations Offices and Other International Organizations, Geneva; and Ambassador Luis Alfonso de Alba, Permanent Representative of Mexico and Chairman of the First Committee.

October 11, 2005 — United Nations—"Space Security: Core Issues and Questions" GSI hosted a panel at the United Nations in cooperation with Spacesecurity.org featuring Philip Coyle, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense; Ambassador Peggy Mason, former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament; Dr. Lucy Stojak, Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University; Dr. Detlev Wolter, Vice-Chair of the UN First Committee and Political Counselor, Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN; the panel was co-Chaired by Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr., Chair of the Bipartisan Security Group and Chairman of the Cypress Fund for Peace and Security along with Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute.

October 6, 2005 — Washington, DC— "An Insider's Perspective on the 2005 NPT Review Conference." The Bipartisan Security Group in conjunction with the office of Congressman John Spratt (D-SC) hosted an event on Capitol Hill featuring Sen. Douglas Roche, Chairman of MPI who spoke on the topic of the 2005 NPT Review Conference.

October 3, 2005 — United Nations— MPI hosted an event at the UN to officially launch the Article VI Forum. Introductory remarks were offered by Nobuyasu Abe, Under-Secretary-General, U.N. Department of Disarmament Affairs and H.E. Choi Young-jin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations and Chairman of the Disarmament and International Security Committee

Keynote speakers of the event were Ambassador Paul Meyer of Canada on the topic of “Near Term Political Strategies for Reviving Multilateral Action"; Ambassador Dato' Hamidon Ali of Malaysia on the "The Legal Elements to Support a Nuclear Weapons-Free World” and Ambassador Luis Alfonso De Alba of Mexico on "Taking Forward the Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Agenda.”

The event was chaired by Sen. Douglas Roche, and closing remarks were offered by Jonathan Granoff.

August 6-9, 2005 — Hiroshima, Japan— 60th Anniversary of the Bombing of Japan. On August 4, Sen. Roche spoke at a conference in Hiroshima, Japan on the topic of "Overcoming Obstacles to a Nuclear Weapons-Free World." The conference was held in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The event was sponsored by the city of Hiroshima, and Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba of Hiroshima hosted.

July 20-23, 2005 — Berkley, California — Tikkun Spiritual Activism Conference
Jonathan Granoff spoke on the Moral and Spiritual Imperative to Address Threats to the Global Commons: Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament.

June 28-29, 2005 — Sofia, Bulgaria — NATO Seminar: "Curbing WMD Proliferation." Jonathan Granoff addressed a NATO Seminar on “Curbing WMD Proliferation” in Sofia, Bulgaria. He spoke on the topic of “Unfinished Business of the NPT, Unanswered Questions Regarding PSI, and Unclear Standards of Resolution 1540.”

May 30-31, 2005 — Geneva, Switzerland — "The Summit that Shook the World"
Mr. Granoff addressed a plenary session on the topic of “Is the World Safer Today" in Geneva, Switzerland at a conference titled “The Summit that Shook the World,” a 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit which took place in 1985 in Geneva. Featured speakers included: President Mikhail Gorbachev; Robert McFarlane, former National Security Advisor to President Reagan; and Jack Matlock, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. Conference participants included diplomats, experts, academics, and interested members of the public.

May 24, 2005 — United Nations, New York — GSI Forum: "Lessons for the Future From the Crucible of Experience" with Robert McNamara, Ted Sorensen, & Amb. Thomas Graham Jr. GSI organized a well-attended afternoon panel at the United Nations with three leading experts offering practical proposals for preserving and strengthening the non-proliferation regime: Mr. Robert McNamara, former U.S. Secretary of Defense; Mr. Ted Sorensen, former Special Counsel to President John F. Kennedy; and Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr., Chairman of BSG. The event was co-sponsored by Economists for Peace and Security.

May 24, 2005 — United Nations, New York — GSI organized a press conference at the United Nations featuring former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, as well as representatives of three key countries: Ambassador Elisabet-Borsiin Bonnier of Sweden, Ambassador Paul Meyer of Canada, and Ambassador Friedrich Gröning of Germany, moderated by Jonathan Granoff. The press conference garnered extensive press coverage, especially Mr. McNamara's remarks, which were made available for wide distribution.

May 9, 2005 — United Nations, New York— Press Conference and Dinner Dialogue: "U.S. Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Goals: Honoring the Balance.” GSI collaborated with the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, chaired by Dr. Hans Blix, and The Simons Foundation to organize a bipartisan presentation at the NPT Review Conference featuring U.S. Congressmen Ed Markey (D-MA) and Curt Weldon (R-PA). They joined Dr. Hans Blix on a panel moderated by Jonathan Granoff titled "U.S. Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Goals: Honoring the Balance" before an invitation-only audience consisting of 120 select diplomats and experts.

May 4, 2005 — United Nations, New York — PNND & Mayors for Peace Forum: "Actions to Advance Nuclear Disarmament." Alyn Ware, Global Coordinator for PNND, organized an event with the Mayors for Peace campaign on May 4th at the UN to discuss actions their constituencies could take to advance nuclear disarmament. The event culminated in the release of a joint statement from mayors and parliamentarians calling on the States Parties to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to commence negotiations for nuclear disarmament and for the international control of all fissile materials. The statement was released at a forum and press conference on May 23rd at the United Nations, and key speakers included U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-OH).

May 2, 2005 — United Nations, New York — MPI Forum: "How to Make the NPT Review Conference Successful." On the opening day of the NPT 2005 Review Conference, MPI organized a standing-room-only forum which was addressed by Hon. Marian Hobbs, Disarmament Minister of New Zealand, Amb. Sergio De Queiroz Duarte, President of the NPT Review Conference, and Amb. Paul Meyer, Canada's Ambassador for Disarmament.

April 26-28, 2005 —Mexico City, Mexico —Alyn Ware played a significant role in the first ever Conference of States Parties to Nuclear Weapon Free Zones, which was held in Mexico bringing together 108 States parties to NWFZs, observer States, and civil society to establish a new and powerful forum for the delegitimization and abolition of nuclear weapons. The Conference adopted a declaration concerning the consolidation, strengthening and expansion of nuclear weapon free zones, the prevention of nuclear proliferation and the achievement of a nuclear weapons free world. PNND organized the Conference Civil Society Forum which included representation from mayors, parliamentarians, academics, scientists, government officials, media, nuclear survivors and non-governmental organizations from around the world.

April 20, 2005 — United Nations, New York — On April 20th the Global Security Institute honored Ted Turner with the 2005 Alan Cranston Peace Award. The Award will be presented by President Mikhail Gorbachev. Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, the former Prime Minister of Canada will preside. Coctail reception and an extraordinary dinner event to follow, with Mr. Turner and President Gorbachev engaging in a dialogue of visionaries for a sustainable future.

March 19, 2005 — Hastings, New York — 29th Annual Westchester Model UN Conference
Jonathan Granoff was the keynote speaker at the 29th Annual Model UN Conference at Westchester High School in Hastings, New York. He spoke about global security threats posed to the environement, such as nuclear weapons, terrorism, ozone depletion, poverty and disease. Over 400 student delegates were in attendance.

March 3, 2005 — The Hague — Clingendael Institute Conference. The prestigious Clingendael Institute, in cooperation with the GSI, MPI, and PNND organized a day-long conference on the NPT at its center in The Hague on March 3, 2005. The MPI delegation, consisting of Sen. Roche, Mr. Alyn Ware, and Mr. Zachary Allen, were joined by Mr. Granoff and Amb. Grey. The recommendations from the Atlanta Consultation were vigorously advocated and discussed. High-level participants included the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, former director of the International Monetary Fund, several current Members of Parliament, government representatives, members of the press, and other influential personages in Dutch foreign policy. Additional speakers included Ambassador Jaap Ramaker, special representative to promote the ratification of the CTBT; Dr. Karel Koster of PENN-Netherlands; and Ambassador Chris Sanders, the Dutch Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament.

September 4, 2004 — Rotterdam, The Netherlands — Jonathan Granoff addressed a large gathering of illustrious individuals in Rotterdam that included the Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander. The presentation was broadcast extensively on national television. The KidsRights organization deals with the rights of children throughout the world.

November 10-13, 2004 —Rome, Italy— Twenty-five Nobel Peace Laureates and their organizations met in Rome, Italy to consider vital issues of multi-ethnicity, human rights and terrorism under the theme of a divided world or a united world. Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute, has played an active role in previous Nobel Summits, and was invited by the Gorbachev Foundation to do so again. He and Alyn Ware (Vice-President of the International Peace Bureau) formed the delegation of the International Peace Bureau (IPB), which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1910. Mr. Granoff chaired a plenary session on the topic of "Terrorism and Other Threats to Humanity."

November 4, 2004 — New York — "New Implications for the NPT 2005 Review Conference." A Middle Powers Initiative forum organized at the United Nations for diplomats and delegates to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly. The forum was chaired by the Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell, former Prime Minster of Canada. Speakers included Amb. Robert T. Grey, Jr., former U.S. Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva and John Holum, former U.S. Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and National Security.
