October 6th, 2009, Napa, CA -- Bob Weir - founding member of the Grateful Dead, Rob Wasserman and Jay Lane make up the "Scaring the Children" trio and will be playing a special acoustic evening concert to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Global Security Institute, on Sunday, November 1st, 2009, at 7:30 PM, at the Napa Valley Opera House, located at 1030 Main Street in downtown Napa, CA. Appearing with Weir's "Scaring the Children" trio will be special guest musician, actress and social activist Lili Haydn, who is often referred to as "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin". The event also includes a mid-afternoon forum entitled "At the Tipping Point: Nuclear Disarmament Challenges and Opportunities Facing Our Global Community". The forum runs from 4:00 to 5:30 PM, and features panelists Kim Campbell, the former Prime Minister of Canada, Ambassador Thomas Graham Jr., and Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute. Following the forum is a special VIP pre-concert wine reception beginning at 6:30 PM, featuring Ambassador Graham, Prime Minister Campbell, Bob Weir, Lili Haydn and other surprise guests.
"With the recent developments in Iran, this has been an historic week at the United Nations," explained Ambassador Graham. "The US President chairing a summit of the Security Council and its adoption of a far reaching resolution on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation is extraordinary. Moreover, it is indicative that we are on the road towards a safer planet," Graham added.
“Nukes are the ultimate environmental issue," stated Prime Minister Campbell. "They cannot be used without poisoning the earth, and therefore their use is immoral.”
Tickets for the Bob Weir "Scaring the Children" concert are $75 per person. Tickets for the special VIP wine reception, featuring Ambassador Graham, Prime Minister Campbell, Bob Weir, Lili Haydn and other surprise guests are $250 per person, and include entry to the concert with preferred seating. About Bob Weir
When the Grateful Dead began to play in 1965, Bob Weir was just 17, so he was naturally treated as "the kid." Over the years, he grew to the point of being one of rock's finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists, and a band stalwart always. He grew up on the Peninsula south of San Francisco, and was glued to a guitar from the time he was 14. One of his earliest influences was a local folkie named Jorma Kaukonen. He first joined in with Garcia in 1964 to form "Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions," and then was a co-founder of the Warlocks, later the Grateful Dead. As the band grew, he became the co-lead-vocalist with Garcia, and wrote a number of important songs, including "The Other One," "Sugar Magnolia," "Playing in the Band," and "Throwing Stones." He is married to the former Natascha Muenter, and they have two daughters, Monet and Chloe. His band RatDog is increasingly active.
About Lili Haydn
Amid a career that has already put her on stage with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (soloing on Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir), or playing and singing one of her own songs as part of Herbie Hancock’s jazz quintet, Lili Haydn has regularly shared stages with Parliament-Funkadelic (Haydn has often been called by leader George Clinton “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin) and the great Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and recorded with Tom Petty and Josh Groban. Haydn was even recruited by film composer Hans Zimmer to be the featured solo violin and voice in the final Pirates of the Caribbean. A committed humanitarian and activist, Haydn also performs regularly for various human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Action Center, and has played private concerts for international gatherings of Nobel laureates. Haydn's song “Children of Babylon” has been adopted by the Global Security Institute to further its message of nuclear nonproliferation.
