International Policies to Reduce Biothreats

A briefing on Capitol Hill

Washington, DC - Former chief US weapons inspector in Iraq, David Kay, will be part of a lunchtime panel discussion on developing international policies to reduce the threats from biological weapons. The panel will explore the pressing threats from potential use of biological weapons by states and terrorists, as well as from accidental releases. The panel, organized by the Bipartisan Security Group, will examine the various cooperative responses the international community can take to counter these threats.

The other panelists are:

Barry Kellman, a member of the BSG Expert Advisors, is Professor of International Law at DePaul University College of Law and author of the new book, Bioviolence: Preventing Biological Terror and Crime

Kenneth Luongo, Executive Director of the Partnership for Global Security and former Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy for Nonproliferation Policy and the Director of the Office of Arms Control and Nonproliferation at the U.S. Department of Energy.

Lunch will be provided. 

The Bipartisan Security Group is dedicated to providing reliable information and analysis of global security issues to Members of Congress and their staff, with an emphasis on arms control, nonproliferation, and disarmament.
