Nuclear Weapons and Human Security: Ending the Conflict
Public Event Announcement

Sponsored by the Middle Powers Initiative
a program of the Global Security Institute

Monday . 8 April 2002 . 1:15-2:45 pm
Conference Room 4 . United Nations . Public Welcome

As the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) moves into a new review cycle, nuclear weapons need to be seen in the larger context of human security. The achievement of global human security requires cooperation amongst nations in addressing complex global concerns, such as protecting the environment, promoting the rule of law, eliminating terrorism, enhancing human rights and promoting sustainable development. The pursuit of security through the threat to use nuclear weapons is incompatible with this mission.
